Resolutions or Goals?

New Year’s Resolutions… what can you really say about New Year’s resolutions? We all have them; they come in different shapes and sizes. Here are a few of mine:

  • I will resist the urge to buy more ficus even though they come in all those different varieties, regular benjaminas, starlights, neons, spearmint, curly, weeping and the rubber tree varieties like burgundy, ruby, tinke, Honduras and then you have fiddle leaf ficus and alli ficus. As if all those options are not enough then they have braids, bushes and standards. (Maybe I’ll call my plant supplier and get a few more added onto our January foliage shipment.)
  • I will keep the top of my desk clean– who are we kidding, I can’t even keep it clean for a whole day!
  • I will try to put out the weekly employee schedule on Monday morning not Thursday afternoon.
  • I will remember to carry a phone with me at work and not take it home with me at the end of the day.
  •  I will not lie to Terrie just because she believes me – BTW Terrie did you know there was a big foot sighting at Safeway last night?
  • I will try to get my flower beds cleaned out before the next planting season. I’d work on this now but I’m not sure where my shovel is.
  • Just because I love amaryllis doesn’t mean I need 10. I could probably live with 9.
  • This year I will remember to consistently water that African violet in my kitchen window.
  • If I buy a plant, I will plant it within 2 days of bringing it home– By I, I mean my husband of course…
  • I’ll only pick up wake-up call once a day…. (don’t they deliver?)

The reality of the new year’s resolutions is I won’t complete most of them, they are the same things year after year after year. At the end of the day I’ll still take home that phone because I will have answered it so many times during the day I’ll think it’s a part of me.

However, I prefer to set new year’s goals. Below are a few of my goals for the coming season!

Hand writing Time to Set Goals concept with red marker on transparent wipe board.

Edge Flower Bed: Edge my flower bed with the bricks I bought last year!

Fertilize: Keep my flower beds fertilized this year for maximum growth and blooms!

Weed: Put down a weed preventer after I pull the weeds, not a week later.

Something New: Try a new vegetable in my garden, like these tri-color green beans.

Project: Keep the dog from walking all over my hostas. I’m going to put up a little chicken wire fence so she learns a new path!

Planting: Plant Stepables around my pool, so I have something soft to walk on.

Fertilize: Only fertilize my lawn once in the spring and once in the fall, because the more fertilizer I lay down the more I have to mow my lawn!

Last but not least…

Enjoy my backyard oasis every night after I get home from work, even if I don’t get everything done!

What are your New Year’s resolutions or GOALS? How many do you plan to complete?
